The following article, from Cowboy Byte, doesn’t tell the half of it.
Poverty level, as determined by the federal government is a sham. Yes, there are those who for one reason or another CANNOT take care of themselves, and we are our brother’s keeper, but only for need, not greed, and far too many who receive are not truly needy.
When I was young I had holes in my socks and underwear, and my mother brought home meat from the small grocery store (where she worked) that was too old to sell. The holes in the knees of my Jeans were honestly earned, not paid extra to obtain. I still repel at the smell of old meat, and I feel rich and self-satisfied when I dig into a drawer full of underware and socks without holes. And I’m proud to wear Jeans sans holes.
I was a latch key kid, and amazingly, waiting for my mom to return from work didn’t hurt my brother and me, in fact it made us respect her all the more, and the example she set, and taught us lots of values as we cooked supper for her (often beans and bread with the treat of canned peaches) so she wouldn’t have to when she got home, tired and worn out from a day’s honest work. I’ll still put my beans up against anyones; only my brother’s are better.
Until I received my small Social Security as a senior adult, I’ve never taken a dollar from the city, county, state, or fed. That’s called personal pride and self-reliance…even though at times I wondered how the rent would be paid and where the next meal was hiding. As a youth, we lived in county housing. We worked, WORKED, our way out of that situation.
Now a so-called poverty level person has two flat screen TV’s, a cell phone, and food stamps which allow them to buy t-bones and filets…none of which are old and smelly, and many trade their food stamps on the black market for cash, so they can buy cigarettes and booze. And if kids go to bed hungry, it’s because parents don’t care that they do, or are spending their unemployment or welfare checks on something besides beans and bread.
Want and need teaches work ethic and work ethic results in self-reliance, self-worth, and self-respect, and we’re robbing folks of that with handouts. Hard work makes a man, hand out palm up forsakes a man. It’s as simple as that.
Thank God for Floridians, who’ve finally come to their senses, their common-sense senses, and now require Welfare recipients to at least take a drug test to qualify. When will the rest of the country gain some common sense? We are destroying self-reliance and self-worth with the great vote-buying giveaways, and by doing so destroying the American dream. WAKE UP, AMERICA!
Study: Welfare Spending Up 41% Under Obama To More Than $193 Billion Per Year, Poverty Levels Unchanged…
It’s almost like government welfare doesn’t lift people out of poverty.
The federal government is not making much headway reducing poverty despite spending hundreds of billions of dollars, according to a study by the libertarian Cato Institute.
Despite an unprecedented increase in federal anti-poverty spending, the national poverty rate has not declined, the study finds.
“[S]ince President Obama took office [in January 2009], federal welfare spending has increased by 41 percent, more than $193 billion per year,” the study says.
Federal welfare spending in fiscal year 2011 totaled $668 billion, spread out over 126 programs, while the poverty rate that remains high at 15.1 percent, roughly where it was in 1965, when President Johnson declared a federal War on Poverty.
As a presidential candidate in 2008, Barack Obama disavowed any connection with former domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, the Weather Underground radical who was one of Obama’s early backers and his colleague on the board of the Woods Fund in Chicago. We now have proof that Obama’s association with Ayers continued even after Obama had been elected to represent Illinois in the U.S. Senate–in the form of a now-scrubbed blog post placing Obama at the home of Ayers and his wife, fellow radical Bernardine Dohrn, on July 4, 2005.
Dr. Tom Perrin, Assistant Professor of English at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, was a graduate student at the University of Chicago at the time, and maintained a blog called “Rambling Thomas.” He lived next door to Ayers and Dohrn in Hyde Park. He wrote at 8:44 a.m. on July 6, 2005:
Guess what? I spent the 4th of July evening with star Democrat Barack Obama! Actually, that’s a lie. Obama was at a barbecue at the house next door (given by a law professor who is a former member of the Weather Underground) and we saw him over the fence at our barbecue. Well, the others did. It had started raining and he had gone inside be the time I got there. Nevertheless.
Dohrn is a Clinical Associate Professor of Law at Northwestern University, and Chicagodid, in fact, record rainfall on the Fourth of July holiday in 2005.
Breitbart News attempted to contact Dr. Perrin for further comment:
Dear Dr. Perrin,
My name is Joel Pollak, and I am the Editor-in-Chief of Breitbart News.
We came across your blog entry from July 2005 in which you mentioned that then-Senator Obama had been a guest at the Ayers/Dohrn house next door.
I was wondering if you could provide more detail.
Dr. Perrin did not respond. He did, however, delete his entire blog from the Internet.
Of course, Breitbart News had saved a screen grab of the blog beforehand:
Obama’s presence–as a U.S. Senator–at the Ayers barbecue has been confirmed by another source, who told Breitbart News: “I too saw Obama at a picnic table in the Ayers/Dohrn backyard, munching away–on the 4th of July.”
The fact that Obama socialized with Ayers and Dorn contradicts the statement that Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt gave the New York Times in 2008:
Mr. LaBolt said the men first met in 1995 through the education project, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and have encountered each other occasionally in public life or in the neighborhood. He said they have not spoken by phone or exchanged e-mail messages since Mr. Obama began serving in the United States Senate in January 2005 and last met more than a year ago when they bumped into each other on the street in Hyde Park.
That statement now appears to be “Clintonian” in its dance around the truth. Obama and Ayers may not have emailed or spoken by phone, but they had, we now know, spoken face to face–at least on July 4, 2005, and perhaps at other times as well.
The continued connection between Obama and his radical, domestic terrorist associates until mere months before he launched his presidential campaign is sharply at odds with the way Obama minimized the relationship, as well as the way the media largely sought to portray it as an insignificant part of Obama’s past.
Whatever differences may have emerged between Obama and Ayers–and other far-left fellow travelers–since Obama took office and grappled with the realities of governing, Obama’s migration towards the mainstream of American politics is very recent, and likely opportunistic. His intellectual and political roots remain extreme.
When you wonder why we think it’s so important Iran doesn’t get the bomb, you need to refresh your memory, or if you weren’t born then, to take a hard look at what the bomb is all about:
This From Delanceyplace.com:
In today’s excerpt – the hydrogen bomb, first tested in 1952, was 750 times more powerful and destructive than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki just seven years earlier. The Russians had stunned the Americans by developing their own atomic bomb by 1949 — much sooner than the world expected — and President Harry Truman authorized the development of the hydrogen bomb as a means of staying ahead in the arms race. Operation Castle Bravo was a subsequent, more powerful 1954 test made on the Bikini atoll in the Pacific Ocean. (In a move laced with superficial irony, Frenchman Louis Reard named a new bathing suit he designed in 1946 the “bikini” in reference to earlier U.S. nuclear tests on the Bikini atoll — he chose the name in reaction to a competitive design called the “Atome” and presumably because of the stir he thought it would create):
“Truman made his decision [to authorize the hydrogen bomb] on the dubious grounds that all these bomb-building decisions were made: If the Russians could build one, the United States had to build one also. (Critics would say that if the United States had enough bombs to create a catastrophe in the Soviet Union — as indeed it did — then it had enough bombs, without building any new ones.) But Truman decided to make the big bomb, and the Americans exploded the world’s first hydrogen bomb at Eniwetok, an atoll in the South Pacific, on November 1, 1952, just two and a half months before the end of Truman’s presidency. This explosion, set off from a control ship thirty miles away, was in an altogether different realm from the atomic bomb; even those who had witnessed atomic blasts were stunned by this explosion. The fireball reached 57,000 feet; the cloud, when it had reached its farthest extent, was about one hundred miles wide. The eruption wiped the island of Elugelab off the face of the planet, leaving only a crater behind, and it destroyed life on the surrounding islands. Human beings who saw it were particularly struck by what happened to birds for miles around: They were incinerated, singed, sick, grounded, struggling to fly. The blast yielded 10.4 megatons of explosive energy, 750 times greater than the explosion that leveled Hiroshima. …
“The … explosion came … just at the end of the Truman administration, not much more than two months before Ike [Dwight Eisenhower] became president. The world was just beginning to assimilate that event when Ike took over. And, as we have seen, in March the Soviets would have new leaders when Stalin died. These new men in the Kremlin would then have their first thermonuclear explosion, in a remote area of Kazakhstan, on August 12, 1953. And the effect on those who saw it would be the same as that of the American explosion nine months earlier: awe and wonder. Those Russians who actually saw the tests found themselves staggered, overwhelmed, awestruck, just as the Americans at Eniwetok had been. Ideologies differ, but the impact of raw physics is universal. The effect of the earlier atomic bombs had not necessarily been so great on those who saw the explosions, but it was on those who actually witnessed the explosions of the vastly more powerful H-bomb. These explosions were so profound as to have a psychological effect; the Soviet scientist Andrei Sakharov said ‘something within you changes.’ Another key Soviet scientist, after seeing the actual effect of a thermonuclear explosion he had worked to produce, vowed to work on it no more.
“The American test code-named Bravo, on Bikini, an atoll in the Pacific, on March 1, 1954, carried the impact to another level; it was the largest blast with which human beings had ever assaulted their earthly habitat to that point, and showed the damage the tests themselves would do. Bravo had been planned to yield five megatons but yielded fifteen. It led to the first human illness and death produced by nuclear weapons since Nagasaki; the radioactive fallout spread hundreds of miles from the huge blast site, and affected some Americans, some Marshall Islanders, and the crew of a Japanese fishing boat, one of whom died. Among those deeply affected by the huge destructive explosion was Georgy Malenkov, for a moment the Soviet leader, himself. The impact was powerful enough to move him to reject, for a time, the received Marxist line that there had to be a war with the capitalist world. Another staggered by the new bomb, reversing previous positions, was the aging Winston Churchill, who noted that it would not take many such explosions to obliterate Great Britain (eight bombs, Harold Macmillan would say repeatedly at a later stage).”

If We Took the Constitution Seriously, Obama Would Be Impeached
If the citizens of this Republic still took the Constitution seriously, Obama would be impeached for his decision to unilaterally grant amnesty to certain illegal aliens.
Article 1, Sec. 8 of the Constitution, which enumerates the power of Congress, states that “Congress shall have the Power To… establish an [sic] uniform Rule of Naturalization.” Congress has passed numerous laws pertaining to immigration and naturalization, including laws requiring the deportation of illegals.
The role of the President, according to Article II, Sec. 3, is to “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” Obama’s refusal to execute Congress’s immigration laws (or, for that matter, Congress’s Defense of Marriage Act) is an impeachable offense. Article II, Sec. 4 states that the President “shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for… Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors.” The deliberate failure to enforce valid immigration law and allow hordes of foreigners to live and work in the U.S. is, arguably, “treason,” and doing so in an election year to appease Hispanic voters could certainly be considered “bribery.”
In theory, Obama could exercise his power in Article II, Sec 2. to “grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States” and offer a blanket pardon for all violators of immigration law. He’s not doing that, because he’d certainly lose in November if he did. (However we should be concerned that if he does lose in November, he’ll do it anyway on his last day in office).
The upshot of Obama’s policy not only to allow hundreds of thousands of illegals to live and work in the U.S. during a time of 8 to 10% unemployment, but even worse, since the vast number of illegals we’re talking about are Hispanics eligible for affirmative-action preferences, to actually getpreferential treatment over native-born Americans.
Remember Obama’s speech in Berlin in 2008? Well, now you know what “citizen of the world” means: instituting an illegal and unconstitutional policy that favors Third Worlders, and disadvantages people actually born as U.S. citizens.
Of course, he’ll get away with it… if you think the gutless Republicans in the House actually represent the interests of their native born constituents and will introduce articles of impeachment, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you….
