Did you know that the United States pays 22% of the annual budget of the United Nations?

On Monday, U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) chair of the House Foreign Relations Committee, introduced an enormous money-saving bill—the “United Nations Transparency, Accountability and Reform Act of 2011.” (H.R. 2829) Simply started, the bill means “To promote transparency, accountability and reform within the United Nations system, and for other purposes.”

In 2010, the United States gave, from the U.S. taxpayers, 22%—yes, almost ONE-FOURTH—of the United Nations’ budget!

Don’t you think this is an outrage?

YOUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS—even in this period where America is economically not too good—and owing China so much, it is not in the realm of consciousness that we support an organization that many times comes against our principles!

YES! It is money out of YOUR POCKET that keeps the United Nations going and solvent! The United States is borrowing money from China (with much interest!) in order to prop up the United Nations. This is beyond belief!

Rep. Ros-Lehtinen is pressing forward with her goals to scale back U.S. funding for the United Nations. She said that OVERSIGHT would be a key function of her panel, particularly funding to the U.N. Human Rights Council (HRC) that is “a waste of taxpayer dollars.”

This important bill, so far, has 57 Co-Sponsors, all Republican. Will you please DEMAND of your Congressman that they Co-Sponsor this important legislation?

H.R. 2829 combines an approach to U.S. funding for the United Nations which supports American goals and interests with provisions that specifically target some of the U.N.’s bullying tactics against Israel, which, you and I are against. Israel is our staunchest ally, regardless of what Mr. Obama portrays!!

The Obama Administration OPPOSES this bill because: “This draft legislation is dated, tired, and frankly unresponsive to the positive role being played by the United Nations,” according to a spokesperson.
